11.5.15

It was Mother's Day over the last weekend but we bring forward the celebrations to next week as my SIL's son couldn't make it on a Sunday evening. We usually celebrate together for the two mothers, my wifey and my SIL since both families are small. The weekend was quite quiet as my son prepared for his mid-year assessment and it will be a tedious week for him. Thus, we didn't really go anywhere except going out for meals and run our errands quick.

I went for a jog for 5KM on a Sunday evening though my muscles are still aching and sore after 2 days since I did a 12KM run last Thursday evening. I wonder why it takes so long to recover...hahha.. I guess I need to strengthen my legs in the gym.

However, I still managed to catch a nice dinner at Pekin Restaurant at Taman Sentosa , JB on a rainy last Friday after I got back from SG. I am sure it is fully pack over there tonight.

Herbal Chicken -  This is one of their signature dish

Pork Ribs King ... my favourite! Love the sweet sauce!

Their signature tofu ... with a blend of spinach on top

Four seasons beans in teriyaki sauce ... usually our favourite dish

And a fried mee which we pack away the extra. Their fried noodles was also quite good,
Have a good week and Happy Mother's Day to all moms!

I thoroughly enjoyed a sermon by my Pastor on an early Sunday morning last week. In fact, the Pastor just came back from his trip and last Sunday's sermon was his first after the trip. He was not around in the main service, which was on last Saturday.

In a nutshell, the Pastor was preaching about internal and external factors that hinders us from Christianity. Though this is a religious subject, I believe we can applied in our daily life on other aspects. The external factors are -

1.Spending too much time on electronic devices on apps like facebook and games.

2. Watching too many movies and dramas till we don't sleep and get enough rest.

3. Focusing too much attention on hobbies and recreations till we pay lesser attention on God's word.

Anyway, it doesn't mean we shouldn't have a hobby or entertainment to de-stress but do it moderately , else it  may become even more stressful. My Pastor's point is these hindrances will affect our Christian life and spending less time on God's word. It also applies to daily life where we ignored other more priority tasks.

Internal factors -
1. Sins of unforgiveness.
2. Sins of the flesh and lust like watching pornography, involved in extra-marital relationships and etc.
3. Sins of anxieties, instead we should cast our anxieties on God and knows He cares.

These internal factors definitely weakens us as well as giving us and our close ones more stress and problems.I thought I learnt something from the sermon though it's common sense and  hope these sharings benefits you too!

Meanwhile,  I always love having a nice good dinner in JB before I go back to SG, especially dining at the Pekin restaurant near Taman Sentosa.

Herbal chicken - famous dish in Pekin restaurant. The chicken really absorbed the fragrance of  the herbs !

Assortment of vegetables in teriyaki sauce

Asparagus - my favourite !

Pork ribs in sweet sauce ....yummy!

Since it was the last day of the school holidays, I decided to attend a Sunday early church service at 8am instead of  the usual Saturday service at 5pm, so that I can bring my kids out for another fun Saturday. Due to lack of sleep where I barely slept for around 6 hours, I tried to keep myself focused during the sermon. It was so difficult to concentrate though I manage to understand the message but I was like drifting in and out of dreamland. That was especially so when the Pastor started to pray and with my eyes closed,  I almost fell asleep. LOL ... I guess I needed to sleep more for the early service next time and hope the Pastor didn't notice me as I was seated quite in front alone.

When I got back, I had a quick breakfast and after sending my kid off to his schoolbus, I decided to take a nap. After I woke up from my nap, I felt like a dream this early morning when in the church service... hahaha. By the way, I went back to my favourite restaurant for dinner and had a simple one as follows.

Vegetables - 'tau miu' ... been awhile I didn't eat this beansprout lookalike vege. Love it especially it's so thick'.

Mix platter of vegetables in marmite sauce. I am eating healthier!

Ostrich meat cooked with ginger. Very appetising.

And, my favourite - Fried chicken. Dipped it in some soft salt and it's heavenly!
Have a good week, folks and have sufficient sleep! :)

Usually before I left for Singapore, I will always try to have a good but simple dinner with my family. It was a good day as heavy rain finally comes to the south as it's been raining non-stop in JB and Singapore in the afternoon. That really clears away the haze as well as the heat wave. Hopefully, we can see green grass tomorrow.

I visited Peking restaurant again as it was on the way to the JB CIQ. It was just five of us including my SIL and we only ordered three dishes, with an additional four fried 'mantou' for my kids. And, well, it was enough since there were only three adults and we were quite full too.

'Gu lou' meat ... sweet and sour and helps whet up my appetite.

'Four Heavenly Kings' - an assortment of brinjals, petai and other vegetables in teriyaki sauce.

Deep fried fish in canto style. There were really lots of meat in the fish.
It was refreshing enough after a nice dinner with good chinese tea, to start the new week. Have a good week, folks!!

2014 has arrived and may all of you have a blessed new year ! It was a quiet day for me on 1/1/2014 as I rested at home most of the time. Earlier, I wanted to attend my church's Watch Night service at 10.30pm till midnight on new year's eve but I was put off by the rainy night and heavy traffic.  I only went out in the late afternoon to run some errands and later, fetched my kid from school for dinner. Yes, it's business as usual in Johor on 1/1 and Johor kids were among the first to attend school. I had my new year dinner with family at my favourite restaurant, Pekin restaurant in Taman Sentosa.

I find that this restaurant has maintained its standard for decades where I first dined there in the mid-90s. It's still an attractive place for folks due to its delicious and affordable menu. We ordered some simple dishes as below.

Lotus with vegetables

Tofu cooked with mushrooms and squids

Foochow soup - love it with some vinegar. Taste like shark fins without the fins.

Pork ribs - very sweet and delicious!

BBQ chicken - my favourite. Dip it in some soft salt and it's damn good!

Brinjals in teriyaki sauce

Another vegetables cooked with belacan
After the dinner, I travelled back to SG in a quiet CIQ, where most folks have already been back due to school reopens tomorrow. 2013 has been great as I achieved many 'firsts' and I hope to continue it in a challenging 2014! Yes, it will be a challenging year for me!

I always likes to have a nice and simple dinner before going back to Singapore for the new work week. And, most of time, I patronised Pekin Restaurant in Taman Sentosa, JB. How great is to end a Sunday evening with some simple, good food and freshly brewed Chinese tea. It really calms me for the evening before facing another stressful week. :(

Fried pork meat in sweet and sour sauce or "gu lou yok"

Their famous spinach tofu

Fried 'mantou'

Century eggs and vegetables soup

"Four heavenly Kings" - consist of a mixed of four vegetables
Have a beautiful week!!!
