5.8.14

I had a long meeting in the afternoon today from 2pm till 5pm. And, after the meeting, my colleague invited me for a coffee to wind down. So, we ordered two cups of kopi and started chit-chatting. Initially, I was asking him why he stopped working out since he likes to exercise and he started telling me about his ADHD kid which requires a lot of his attention after work, which makes him no time to workout. I felt sorry for him as well as feel bad as I always teased him that he's getting lazy. At the end of the conversation, a word of wisdom struck me which really makes him feels good. I told him everybody has problems, be it finance, health, work, family and etc. What you perceive a person as having a good life is not really true as he/she might have other problems that you may not know. For example, I told him he has kids but some couples may be trying hard for a baby or some rich people are facing family politics at home and poor health. So, he should be fortunate and cherished what he has, which applies to us all. :)

Btw, I reached home early last Friday in order to avoid any jam at the CIQ where last Friday morning, there was a commotion where some factory buses refused to pay the toll hikes and everyone walking across the causeway instead for 30 mins. Since I am home for dinner, my kid suggested Japanese dinner and there we go. I took the pics with another phone cam which doesn't turns out to be very sharp.

Salmon and kani maki ... I always loves salmon maki while my kid never failed to order kani maki.

My wifey bento set , which consist of salmon teriyaki , edamane , salad and some vegetables.

I can't remember what this roll is called when it's sure crispy

This is a part of my bento, braised pork. Of course, I only ate the lean meat. :P

The sashimi that comes together with my bento

This vegetables taste and looks like kangkung ...hmmm...

Agedashi tofu ... i love it!

And, my bbq shiitake mushrooms. I always likes mushrooms!
Stay cheerful always, folks and do keep in mind problems are signs we are alive!! :)

I finally enjoyed a Sunday with my kid as it was a holiday today in Malaysia and to his delight, he was got an unexpected holiday on last Thursday which gave him a long weekend. I brought him to to his tuition, improvement classes and church school as usual and he got a surprise that there was a performance from his church school as he quickly pick up the moves during the rehearsal. My little princess was getting better after being down with hand foot and mouth disease earlier of the week. It was terrible for her as she can't even eat and drink due to the ulcers in her mouth few days ago. I can imagine how painful is it! Really poor thing.

Anyway, glad all these have cleared up and after a long day, we decided to have Japanese food for dinner to wind down. I ordered quite lot of food just for the four of us, two adults and two small kids.

A beautiful sushi platter for all

A closer shot at the ika sushi

A chawanmushi for my little princess

My sukiyaki beef bowl

Teriyaki salmon bento for my wifey to share with my little princess

Tempura which comes with a Udon for my kid

And , he can't wait to eat it before I snap the udon ...sigh...
It was a roller coaster week for my wifey who needed to take care of my little princess, day and night. I am glad at least I can drove them around today for a Sunday retreat at the malls as usually it is classes for my kid. How good if Johor weekends remains like last year. :)

Somehow I find this is one of the best Bento set I ever had. At a cost of RM25, I got my favourite Salmon Shioyaki , Edamane beans, chicken teriyaki, Agedashi tofu and miso soup. I guess it's quite worthwhile but most importantly, it had all my favourite Japanese food in one bento box. And, I can't help but have to blog this bento set. LOL ....

I had this at Umatei  Japanese Restaurant in Permas Jaya, JB.

Nothing grand in celebrating Mother's Day for my wifey as there was replacement class on Saturday for my kid and he needed to go to school on Sunday. Unlike previous years, my sis-in-law and family and will join us but this year, they decided to celebrate in Singapore. Thus, I decided to bring my family to Umatei restaurant again since their Japanese food are not bad and my family loves Japanese food. It seems crowded everywhere yesterday in restaurants.

A small fountain greeted us as we entered the restaurant

My kids wanted to sit on the row of single seats, despite there are rooms around

I ordered a salmon sushi. It looks good and delicious. The rice were also sticky and not easily fell off, unlike some sushi.

A macro shot of the sushi.

My wife wanted to have california maki.

While my kid decided to go for a tempura Udon. The tempura was not in the soup and before I managed to snap it, he already dipped in the sauce and into his mouth... :P

As usual, I had my favourite Salmon bento but this time round, I have to order teriyaki sauce instead of Shioyaki since my little princess wanted to share this with me.
And, that's it, just a simple dinner for my lovely wifey where the kids love the meals too! Happy Mother's Day to all Mums! :)

I found a new Japanese restaurant which was opened around the Permas Jaya area while on the way to Jusco Permas. Permas Jaya always had many Japanese restaurant here due to a small group of Japanese expats working around the Pasir Gudang area and staying here. Thus, as Japanese food lovers, we decided to patronise Umatai restaurant. It was very close to the famous Italian restaurant, Toro's Espanol, and I am not sure if it belongs to the same management too.

Sake Maki and Kani Maki - The rice was tight and the ingredients are fresh. Not bad!!

Sake Maki

Moyashi Ramen

Chirashi Sushi - An assortment of sashimi with rice underneath

My kids' favourite Salmon Teriyaki Set

I had a Salmon Shioyaki Bento. I always like Salmon Shioyaki ... it's also healthy.
I think the food here was not bad and i don't mind coming again.Altogether, with four cups of green tea, the bill came to RM132. The ambience there was not bad and it was really quiet but each individual room was spacious. I like to dine in such environment, compare to those crowded and noisy ones. It was a relaxing dinner!

Umatei is located at 3, Jalan Permas 10/10, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, 81750 Masai, Johor.
