It was a rainy day when we were in Shanghai but that doesn't stopped us from walking and strolling around the popular places, guided by our tour guide. Luckily this was the 'warmest' day in our trip as the temperature was around 10 celsius, compared to those 3-8 celsius earlier in other places, LOL Thus, though it rained, we felt warm under our winter jackets and hoods down. We mainly walked at some old streets till we reached the ChengHun Miao or 'City God Temple'.

After a short walk down memory lane, we reached the popular
Chenghun Miao. Well, there was a temple here but some of the premises has been converted to shopping malls or shops. Anyway, we didn't visit the temple but mainly strolled and shopped around, as well as have our lunch here. Though it was raining, the places was really crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

We had our lunch at a nearby large food-court over there. There were lots of food on displayed and you just take what you like, and bring to the counter for payments.

All in all, these foods cost me around RMB120-130+!! Shanghai is really an expensive place !!

First time seeing the big xiao loong pau that needs straw!

DeleteI remember this place very well as I spent all day there walking through the City God's Temple, Shopping, Private Gardens and Tea House on the lake. The weather was cold and pleasant without rain but damn crowded as it was the Golden Weeks of China.
ReplyDeleteThis Xiao Long Bao is quite normal sized by China's standard. I have seen the restaurants operated by the Hui Clans in Xian where the smallest one was like 20 sen coin until the size of a dinner plate for each Xiao long Bao dumpling! It was a mammoth crazy size but FUN! These dumplings are originated from Nanxiang, a suburb outside Shanghai. So you ate and enjoyed the originals!

DeleteI just came back from Shanghai yesterday, this place looks like the place I just went, not sure is around the same place or what, but from the name apparently not the same, hahaha...but I do like all the architecture buildings here. If I get to walk slowly here, I would love to take tons of picture of every single corner here.

Deleteerrr, "Chenghun Miao"?? or maybe you mean "Chenghuang Miao"?? this is one place not to be missed in Shanghai also, my friend brought me there to walk around the streets and purposely waited for the very famous Xiao Long Bao there..

so this area is not something you are used to seeing in a metropolitan, all the shops along the streets are built resembling the ancient houses, i guess you actually like this type of architecture more?? hehe, it was drizzling and the weather was also warmer, better still you can enjoy the stroll (and looking at beautiful girls)..
ReplyDeleteYes, I like these types of buildings rather than those sky rise buildings! Hahaha... It's too common in SG and I want to see something different. Luckily it was not too cold and the rain can be a bit inconvenient , especially to the kids.
Deletei remember those Xiao Long Bao with straw, haha.. it was something new to me.. my friend brought us to a very famous restaurant where we gotta wait outside for seats.. but the service was good, we were given chairs to sit and also tea to drink while waiting.. and i saw the skewer, was that lamb?? i remember buying them from roadside stalls that my friend recommended, it was so nice!! i don't fancy lamb because of the strong smell, but the skewer was so good!!
ReplyDeleteAh.. So you went to a restaurant where they served you. Most of the time when we ate on our own, we will be at the food courts or eateries where it's self service.

ooh, there are so many choices in the foodcourt huh?? and you also bought a big variety of food to try among yourself.. so this meal is not inclusive in your package i supposed.. hahaha, usually in big cities are like that lah, more expensive and the package will have you fork out the money yourself instead.. and probably that was a very touristy place, hence the food are also more expensive??
ReplyDeleteYes, this one is not included in the tour and it's on our own. Anyway, it's a diy trip though the tour guide gave us some pointers and brought us there.

Next time I will use straw to drink the soup 1st before eating the paus. ^^

I like the photos you took. The rain actually made the scene in Shanghai look nicer coz of the moody lighting and wet ground. It fits the theme of Shanghai very well, like the old movie Shanghai Grand.
ReplyDeleteThe big xiao long bao looks good. I've seen the straw ones in chain restaurant in KL too but I'm sure it's not as good as the ones in Shanghai.
I'll also like the try the sour (!!!) tau fu fa. Never had that before.
