breaking the ice ...

I always wanted to know more of my gym regulars and this thought has linger in my mind almost years ago. Well, of course there are folks I do not know whom I seen once or twice and then they disappeared.  However, there are those who came regularly at almost the same schedule as me and it will be great to befriend some of them.

Well, I tried though not that successful as everybody is busy working out. It's easier to talk to males (definitely) and uncles, who has been working out for decades. They are a chatty type where they love to share their experiences with us as well as gossiped too on some instructors training methods. The younger males also ok, but not as friendly. They probably just said hi or nodded their head when they see you. And, haha... I have my embarrassing moments with ladies. Of course, I didn't said hi to all ladies else I will be labelled as a buaya there. I remember I tried saying hi to one regular gym lady and I got ignored. hashasha .. Luckily, there are few friendly ones who just smiled back.

Well, what I am experiencing are very normal behaviour for humans but it's rewarding to break the ice and make some new friends which I did, though I don't overdo it and that explained I am still very much to myself while working out. Ok, time to bring out my high quality bluetooth earphone...hahaha..

Oh.. I had a nice lunch in Swenson and order an healthy grilled salmon which comes in a set where I can chose either coffee or ice-cream. I chose the latter.

My healthy salmon set

And a 'Happy Birthday' Sundae...though not my birthday. It's just on the menu.,hahaha
Have a great weekend!

  1. The previous FF gym I went had lots of weird members there from outlet to outlet where varied personalities hung out. I would not dare elaborate but I found the foreign members were the friendliest lot with smiles esp the Koreans and Japanese. If you are younger and more muscular, you would attract both sexes there but that is not your reason being there! If you want kawan, I think you can smile at anyone in Geylang! Wakakaka

I saw your salmon and felt guilty for eating overdosed of them during the daily hotel breakfasts in Tokyo. Not sure where they fished them from!! Argh! .... I love that ice cream, so yummy and fattening.

  2. Swenson? They've food there, thought they only have ice cream. Ya...uncles and aunties are chatty, they are friendlier, more social. The younger ones tend to stick to their own lot, I feel. My girl always wondered how I could just to people like long lost friends...especially those sellers at the market and shops.

  5. it's very true what you have said.. many familiar faces we see in the gym, those regulars who are there the same time everyday as well as those who are in the same group fitness class all the time.. even if we do not know each other, but seeing each other all the time, sure can recognize also..

  6. but not easy to get the know each other, I guess not because we are not friendly but most probably we do not take the initiative for the first step out, it can be quite awkward sometimes.. but if someone talks to me, I sure will talk also probably not very deep chat lor.. or more commonly just smile and hi-bye those types..

  9. Hahaha, I'm one of those like appear one or two days then disappear. I always thought like the same thing too, but when I got here, I just so lazy to talk. Hahaha! But I did smile back of course.

  10. Generally Asians are more reserved and feel awkward when greeted by strangers. In fact, at the shopping complex when the shop staff greet them, they just ignore and never wish back. Very different from ang mohs, they will casually say hi or good morning when they see you. I experienced that overseas.

  11. For me, I chat in the locker room or at the lounge instead of the workout area.
Have to respect other people's wish to exercise unless they like to chat while doing their workouts. Heheh

  12. Same for me, for my student's parents, I usually liaise with the mothers cos I am afraid the mothers might get jealous if I get too close with their husbands, so talk to opposite sex, there is always the fear of hidden agenda

  14. Those go to gym are either too busy with working out or those looking for opportunities to chat up with you. Lol.

I usually just smile at them and go on with my routine.
