Big Prawn noodles...

Though I am Malaysian, somehow I prefer the Singapore Prawn mee compared to Malaysia's , which is basically based on the Penang prawn mee. I find the latter spicy and basically, lesser or smaller or no prawns, though the soup is nice. The prawn noodles in Singapore usually contains bigger prawns with a light but non-spicy soup. The soup brings out the raw prawn flavour which I love it and some put in some pork ribs to go with it. Of course, with the bigger prawns, it doesn't come cheap.

I had this at a food court in Whampoa yesterday and it's been a while I never had the big prawn noodles. I guess this is one famous stalls around as it moves from the famous 'Long House' food court.

It was not crowded at 4pm then ...

Here's my bowl of big prawn noodles , cost me S$10. I simply love the prawn meat and the soup!

And, a ice-kacang to sum up a wonderful afternoon !
Oooh. I have been eating a lot over the weekend in SG. Gotta run more! :) Have a good week ahead!

  1. I may have it before, can't remember. Singapore, I love their fried Hokkien noodles with prawns and squid, wrapped/served in dried opeh leaf - no leaf, fail!

  2. Oh, Singapore one nicer due to the big prawns? I haven't eaten prawn mee for a long time. I used to eat quite often during my student days.

OMG!!! that bowl of prawn noodles with so many big prawns only for S$1.20??!!! you must be kidding~~

  4. i have not tried the soup version of Singapore Prawn Mee, but i have tried the fried version and i would say it taste good.. very different and i don't think we have something similar in Malaysia.. but me so-so prawns only lah, i actually prefer to eat prawns as a dish on its own rather than mixed into other cookings.. steamed prawns with soy sauce is my favorite.. :)

    1. SK - Well, I do agree with you. Actually I find the prawns not much taste compared to those fresh prawns as a dish. It's the soup that matters in a prawn noodles.

  8. I am opposite to you, I don't like the raw prawn flavour in the soup so I seldom eat big prawn noodles, but those smaller prawns noodles with lesser raw flavour I don't mind

    1. Libby - Yeah, different people got different taste and preferences. For me, I don't like duck meat as well as internal organs like liver.

  11. I have eaten that superb prawn noodles in Geylang with huge prawns, big like mini lobsters!
Honestly, I still prefer the Penang Styled Prawn Mee which comes with delicious strong prawn taste and spicy flavour.
You just prefer non spicy food that's why you opt for Singapore's style.

  16. Looks very delicious! :)

It's something I'll definitely order when I'm in Singapore next time. SGD 10 is about RM 28, not too bad. The soup looks nice too, it's something I'll like for sure.

Oh ya, saw 小影's comment - I think they don't remove the shells for presentation and aesthetics - it just looks better like that, to me anyway.

  17. Hi, Chris Au,
It's my first time here ^_^
I'm actually a big sea food fan but unfortunately, prawns are not included to them and so as other sea shells (maybe i'm just too lazy to take them out from their shells LOL).. I may not be a big fan of those prawns but I would absolutely love that Ice kacang... so drooling and so perfect for hot weather condition here in Philippines ^_^
