One good thing about being at home during festive seasons was I get to enjoy home-cooked food by my mom. I seems to be eating non-stop since CNY eve till the day I leave Ipoh. Even though this year's CNY was a bit quiet, the best thing I look forward to is the simple but delicious dishes prepared by my mom. Eating out was quite stressful as I gotta 'compete' with others for seats and the food were not as nice as before. The eateries just quickly prepared the food and served while the counters were happily collecting money from the mark up prices. There was this morning where I had dim sum with my family and parents and we gotta stand to wait for the seats for almost 30 mins, while the dim sum standards deteriorated.
I only spent three days in Ipoh and though it can be boring at times, it's not too bad where at least I can drive around up north to take a break as well as spent some time with my parents. Btw, here's some simple dishes prepared by my mom during dinners.
Oh yeah .... I need to run again after a week break to shed off the extra calories and diet a bit. After all, its the Lent season. :)

ReplyDeleteYour mom cooked scrumptious looking meals. Yums. Nothing beats mom's homecooked food :)
Merryn - Got .... one day 4 cups!
DeleteHaha. All those inputs, you need to work hard to shed some calories.
ReplyDeleteYes. Festive season is all about food. I love your mum's cooking. Mum is the best!
Rose - yeah lor .. need to run a lot!
DeleteThat's what people call "cho nee" (celebrate New Year). In the old days, they ate very simple food every day in the year, just enough to fill them up, lots of carbs for energy...and come Chinese New Year, they would have the whole works to last for at least a week or even longer - a real feast.
ReplyDeleteNo leh! Mine are freshwater prawns, not udang galah. I did buy giant tiger prawns - RM45 a kg, two weeks before Chinese New Year...but did not get to cook them in the end. Still in the freezer. Save for Chap Goh Meh, I guess.
STP - wah ... is it still fresh ?
DeleteHaha, I like your title, yes, memang CNY is all about eat eat eat, food and more food, and cookies too.. Can't miss the steamed white chicken, yee sang and braised meat with mushrooms/sea cucumber thingy.. All good food, I like, yummmzzz..
ReplyDeletePrincess - yeah , festive seasons are like lor..
Deleteyeah.. definitely it's good to be home especially when you are away from home most of (or even all of) the time throughout the year..
ReplyDeleteSK - yes, its nice to enjoy moms cooking after so long.
Deletesurely you are eating special dishes like what you were having during CNY - first it's festive and also a tradition, second you go back once in a blue moon for sure your mom will cook nicer food for you.. stay at home all year long and you will find out that you will only eat normal food most of the time except festives and when there are guests.. haha!! :D
ReplyDeleteSK - OK la..I still love my mom's cooking even for normal food. :)
Deletereally everything hor liao leh.. got huge prawns, got abalone, got scallops, got mushrooms, got chicken.. did you help your mom cook all those?? or you just goyang kaki there waiting to makan only?? hahahaha~~
ReplyDeleteSK - yup... eat and rest. ehehhe...

DeleteAfter I cried over my weight gained to gym buddies, they too told me that it is ok to gain weight on CNY. Meaning we are happy on CNY. So, I feel much better now. I am also working out and dieting now to shed the extra fat.
ReplyDeleteYannie - Glad you feel better. No need to be so conscious of your weight and Im sure you can shed it.
